YouTube has experimented with interactive advertising previously. This next step marks its first foray into interactive narrative content, which would theoretically make it a direct competitor to luxury interactive programming such as Bandersnatch from Netflix.
The projects will exist under a new unit dedicated to interactive programming and reside specials, as reported by a YouTube spokesperson. Interactivity will primarily drives the show has been developed. The company will also incorporate some product features into the its scripted and unscripted YouTube Originals. The company plans to announce the very first of these projects according to the spokesperson.

The news comes only months after The Hollywood Reporter reported which YouTube was scaling back on original series in general. YouTube was supposed to start climbing back in 2020, based on The Hollywood Reporter, as a means of”serious funding reduction.” It’s unclear just how many specials YouTube or apps is currently gearing up to put money into.
