The barriers are well, while the future is apparent.   Robustness, processing power, generalization and price are tradeoffs future hardware products will have to balance.   Contrary to services applications enjoys along with the scalable and on-demand cloud, each hardware product will have onboard processing, sensors, connectivity technology, along with other requirements that make their way.   Sure a GPU can be thrown in the BOM, but will the marketplace accept the Purchase Price?   High performance computing in the border remains in its nascent stages so processing of data and pictures can be costly.
