Some time back I wrote about the Alexa Prize, a university competition where participating teams are creating socialbots focused on advancing computer to individual interaction. We are currently in year two, currently going into the last stretch for 2018 and I thought I’d give an update to everyone.

For those who aren't comfortable, Alexa Prize teams use customer feedback to progress several regions of conversational AI, with the grand challenge being a socialbotthat can engage coherently for 20 minutes at a fun, high-quality conversation on popular topics like entertainment, sports, technology, and style. Teams are thinking about how to make strides in regions including knowledge acquisition, natural language understanding and generation, context modeling, common sense reasoning, and dialog planning big.
On July 2, the eight 2018 Alexa Prize teams, from universities around the globe, entered the semifinals period of the contest. In mid-August the 2 teams with the average customer ratings will progress to the finals round. Amazon will selects at least the other team according to scientific merit, coherence, interestingness, rate, and their socialbot ' s worth. While a mixture of innovation, innovation, and creativity fuels teams, customer participation is crucial for them to reach their goals. Your interactions and opinions will be crucial to helping teams continue to better their socialbots into the finals round.
