A while back I wrote about the Alexa Prize, a college competition where engaging teams are producing socialbots focused on progressing computer to human interaction. We’re now in year two, currently going into the final stretch for 2018 and I thought I would give everyone an update.

For people who aren't familiar, Alexa Prize teams utilize customer feedback to progress several areas of conversational AI, together with the grand challenge being a socialbotthat could engage coherently for 20 minutes in an enjoyable, high quality conversation on popular subjects such as entertainment, sports, technology, and fashion. Teams are thinking about the way to make strides in regions including knowledge acquisition, natural language understanding and generation, context modeling, common sense reasoning, and dialog planning big.
To be part of the dialog, simply say”Alexa allow 's talk” on almost any Alexa-enabled device and begin your own Alexa Prize journey. Customers have logged thousands of hours of dialog with the eight socialbots currently offered.
On July 2, the eight 2018 Alexa Prize teams, from universities around the globe, entered the semifinals period of the contest. In mid-August the two teams with the average customer evaluations will advance to the finals round. At least one other team will be selected by Amazon based on interestingness, coherence, their s worth, rate, and scientific merit. While a mix of innovation, innovation, and creativity fuels teams, customer engagement is crucial for them to reach their objectives. Your interactions and feedback will be critical to assisting teams continue to better their socialbots into the finals round.
