Patently Apple:

The protective coatings might incorporate a binder material such as polymer (sometimes known as a matrix or silicone matrix) and may comprise particles embedded within the binder. The particles may have hardness to improve the durability of the coatings.

This week the US Patent & Trademark Office released a patent application from Apple that relates to brand new protective coatings being inserted to Apple devices later on that will prevent damage to home structures, transparent members associated with optical part windows and screens, along with other device structures.
